We were joined by John Seed, Zoey Frank and Santiago Galeas. We talked about 'realism' and disruption, about layering on the picture plane and how this opens up both exciting paint surfaces and the exploration of liminal spaces. We looked at the ways in which the materiality is a manifestation of the artist's presence and how artists engage with sociopolitical questions, how people are embodied through paint and how this can empower and give visibility to communities not previously represented in painting.
