Embodied Selves: How Our Bodies Reflect Our Living

Dialogues_EmbodiedSelves_April1st2023

Anne Kearney (painter and environmental psychologist) and Ohad Nachmani (Feldenkrais practitioner) will invite us along for a transdisciplinary exploration of how our interaction with our world shapes us. This fundamental fact has huge ramifications on how we learn in the world, how our bodies become expressions of our actions, how our bodies in turn can reinforce behaviours, where we choose to focus our attention, the forms of language we use and the art we choose to create. We will use this fascination for the body within its environment as a springboard to explore the habits we create, the heuristic loops we get caught in and the traces that our lived experiences leave on our bodies.

Anne Kearney’s paintings of people emanate a sense of being in the world; the figures represented exist far beyond their projected image and we feel the echoes of their histories, their scars, their emotions, and how the space around them becomes part of who they are. Ohad Nachmani’s extensive experience of working with how people move in the world stems from a deep self-reflexive questioning of how actions affect the quality of how we engage in the world and how every one of us can learn to be more aware. Join us for what promises to be a fascinating conversation.
