Session March 2021
Indeterminacy, Languages and Metaphor
Speakers Paul B. Armstrong, Paul Heilker and Karen Kaapcke
in conversation with Elina Cerla
We will be joined by the wonderful artist Karen Kaapcke, whose work revels in the indeterminacy of the non-verbal sphere of painting, Paul B. Armstrong, author of the fascinating books How Literature Plays with the Brain: The Neuroscience of Reading and Art and Stories and the Brain: The Neuroscience of Narrative, and Paul Heilker, thought-provoking essayist, musician, and specialist in rhetoric as a way of being in the world through language.
We will be exploring the ways in which visual and verbal languages play on our inherent affinity for suggestion and ambiguity to create mechanisms for generating meaning such as metaphor and much more.
